The Lodge At Tahoe Donner; Stephanie & Bart's Sneak Peek

Not only does a river run through the town of Truckee, but several lakes also water this gorgeous alpine terrain. The most prominent of them, Donner Lake, may not be as famous as its larger neighbor to the east, yet according to some it’s every bit as lovely as Lake Tahoe—and with fewer crowds.

So it’s not surprising that it’s attracted Tahoe Donner, an exclusive planned community regally ensconced in the surrounding peaks. This year-round resort development offers residents a wealth of outdoor recreation. Many of these activities, such as the equestrian center, tennis, skiing, camping, golf and more, are also open to the public.

The cornerstone of Tahoe Donner is The Lodge, a new restaurant and banquet center that invites visitors to celebrate their special occasions amid breathtaking pastoral beauty. With a tall A-frame façade and plenty of wood and windows, The Lodge is fashioned like a sleek, upscale mountain hideaway. Situated right on the Tahoe Donner Golf Course, The Lodge embraces a phenomenal view of emerald fairways, towering pines and the rugged sierra.

Spring or fall wedding ceremonies can be held at one of The Lodge’s nearby picturesque sites. If you envision something more genteel, wed on The Lodge’s Pavilion, a tiled terrace outside the restaurant that adjoins the manicured golf greens. Say “I do” right on the grass, then enjoy cocktails and appetizers on the Pavilion, which easily adapts to tents, canopies, or simple market umbrellas. For the reception, it’s just a few steps indoors to The Lodge’s attractively outfitted banquet room.

The second story of The Lodge houses two cozy settings for rehearsal dinners. The Sage, named for the room’s lovely shade of green, also has an abundance of pine in the walls and ceiling.

A stone fireplace is the focal point of the Aspen. Both rooms overlook the 18th hole of the golf course, and give diners something beautiful to look at any time of year.

All the interior spaces of The Lodge are warm and inviting, with soft golden walls, wood trim and high, open-beamed ceilings. The most distinctive features, though, are the huge picture windows that capture the dynamic view. In winter, the trees and mountains wear a dusting of snow that makes for a magnificent panorama. A wraparound deck upstairs is a fabulous vantage point for taking photos and drinking in the vista. There’s also an intimate garden grotto on site with a pretty waterfall—perfect for small summer gatherings and romantic photo ops—and a rollicking pub that’s a fun spot for the after-party.

With the rustic splendor of its environs, pleasing architecture and gracious hospitality, The Lodge at Tahoe Donner is a standout venue.
