If I could do IT again

I often talk about getting married again, well, not getting married to a different man...the same man, I love John, and I couldn't imagine my life without him.

But if we could do our wedding over again, what I would do differently... you know I'd hire a photographer, I've talked about that before.

But what about what I would wear?

Definately not WHAT I ACTUALLY wore... because that was anything but timeless... can you say helllllllllloooooooo 80's!

I mean, big, everything...

I'd probably be a two dress bride.

Maybe?

Kim & Joe's Sneak Peek

Joe's Take:

I remember the first time I saw Kim she was crossing the street going to the Federal Courthouse in Reno. I was working at the Public Defender's Office across the street and my friend was dating one of her crosswalk companions. I put in my request for a "set-up" immediately but we didn't officially meet until after a UNR-UNLV game. Can you believe I fell for a girl in UNLV red?! Regardless, from the "HALF" date, to Sezmu, to "Little Miss Sunshine", to the secret Flying Trapeze date, I've been enamored of Kim and can't wait to be married to her. Along with her beauty, I'm continually impressed by her intellect and ceaseless curiosity. I also love her little quirks. She dances when she's getting ready. She hates leftovers but cooks for four even though she lives alone. And she locks the car doors no matter where we are (if we were pulling into the Pentagon, she'd lock the doors)! But even if I have to replace my door handle because I've pulled it off, I can't wait to have her riding by my side!

Kim's Take:

I moved to Reno with the expectations of
friends, trying new things, and then moving East after the end of my clerkship. I never expected to meet the man I would marry there! But how could I resist a guy who sneaks roses into my office in the federal courthouse (after convincing security), scrapes ice off my windows before I even wake up, leaves flowers on my doorstep for me to find on the way to work, and finds ways to surprise me as much as he can (from flying trapeze dates to the proposal)? One of the many things I love about Joe is how he never stifles any of my dreams. When I was in Reno, I still yearned for a big city experience. Joe never discouraged it and said we’ll make it work! And we did! Now, I get to live out another dream and marry a man whom I love and admire for his patience, wit, intellect, athleticism, and honesty. In words of wisdom from Jo Dee Messina, I’ve always said, “I want a man that stands beside me, not in front of or behind me.” I’ve found that man in Joe and can’t wait to marry him in October!

An answer to the impossible!

Last night I got a message from my dad which basically made my whole day/week/month/year/etc.  Basically Chris, my rocking brother-in-law, figured out how to hook up my dad's new hearing aids to a phone so that what comes through the phone goes directly into Dad's hearing aids.  This allows him to be able to hear everything said very clearly and effortlessly.  PRAISE GOD!!!  Success has been found finally!  It was so good to hear his excitement and to have him say that he actually heard what I said on my message.  It was really easy to hear him too (since the device doesn't use a normal phone mic he didn't know how clear it would be).  So although his hearing is not healed, the Lord has blessed him through this!  One step towards the 'impossible' prayer of complete healing!

WAY TO GO DADDY!!!

When to Cut the Cake at Your Wedding Reception

So… When do we cut the wedding cake?

The activity of celebrating the wedding cake has been an important part of the wedding reception since the days of Ancient Rome. During that time period, things were a little different. There was no stacking and there was no crazy decorating. There was, however, a simple wheat cake crumbled over the bride's head and into her hair. Sound odd? There was a reason. Wheat at this time to this culture was a symbol that represented bounty, so this messy tradition was carried out to ensure her fertility.

Today, many things have changed at the wedding reception. While we may seem more civilized to pour crumbs over the head of the new bride, we do carry on a twist to the old cake tradition. Instead, now the bride and groom hold a knife together and cut the cake together. In some cases, the groom lovingly smashes the cake in the glowing bride's face; Not a far cry from the old tradition after all. This new tradition continues with the top of the layered cake is now saved for the bride and groom to eat, one year later on their first anniversary.

The first wedding I ever DJ’ed at where there was no cake cutting happened last week. Do you have to cut the cake? Technically no. However, cutting the cake gives your guests and your photographer a great photo opportunity and lets them all celebrate your marriage with you, and your creativity of cake choice.

There seems to be a constant battle, of late, between the DJ and/or wedding planners and the wedding hall/ caterers on when the best time it is to cut the cake at your wedding reception. Well, what is the answer?

Traditionally, the cake should be cut towards the end of the evening. After eating a big meal, dessert isn’t always right on the guests’ minds, but could be after an hour or two of dancing. Some also choose to do the cutting right after the dinner so that everyone can dance the night away without any interruptions, but again, the cake often isn’t eaten then, if at all, until later.

One thing to keep in mind… If you do notice that, during your reception, the hall is seeming to nag you for the cake to be cut and eaten right away, they probably have a hidden agenda. Having the cake cut early is often a cost-cutting factor; the hall can send home their extra staff and save money on payroll!

Whatever you chose to do, do what feels right for you! Here are some song ideas to play while the cake is being cut:

Destiny – Jim Brickman
Can You Feel The Love Tonight? – Elton John
Recipe For Making Love – Harry Connick, Jr.
I Got You Babe – Sonny and Cher
This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) – Natalie Cole
Thank You – Led Zeppelin
The Sweetest Thing – U2
Sugar, Sugar – The Archies
Wedding Song – Bob Dylan
Unbroken – Tim McGraw
How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) – James Taylor
It’s Your Love – Tim McGraw & Faith Hill
Ain’t That A Kick In The Head – Dean Martin
Chapel Of Love – Dixie Cups
Love You Madly – Cake
Because You Loved Me – Celine Dion
When I’m Sixty-Four – The Beatles
Love And Marriage – Frank Sinatra
That’s Amore – Dean Martin
Grow Old With You – Adam Sandler
Eat it – Weird Al Yankovic
After All Is Said And Done – Beyoncé Knowles & Marc Nelson
1, 2, 3, 4 – Plain White T’s
‘Cause I love You – Lenny Williams
Whatever It is – Zac Brown Band
One Love – Bob Marley
Here and Now – Luther Vandross
I Do (Cherish You) – 98 Degrees
Cut The Cake – Average White Band
All My Life – K-Ci & JoJo

Bonnie & Ken's Wedding

Bonnie and Ken chose Edgewood Country Club in Stateline, Nevada for their wedding site and reception venue. Lake Tahoe was particularly blue during the calm, noon-time ceremony. Crimson red roses and fragrant Asiatic lilies filled the centers of every table, and swags of greens decorated the tree trunk arbor where Bonnie and Ken became husband and wife.

Bonnie had taken a year to plan out even the finest detail for this special day. Her attention to detail and perfection made every element of this fall wedding a day worth remembering for a very long time to come. The beautiful ceremony was filled with traditions including the "tying of the knot" and the ringing of the bells. As part of her vows to Ken, Bonnie sang "You Light Up My Life" with a love that was sincerely heart-felt.

A delicious buffet brunch followed including all the specialties that the catering staff at Edgewood has become famous for. Dancing and mingling at the Lake filled the remainder of the afternoon, and then it was time for Bonnie and Ken to drive off into the sunset towards their happily ever after.

Bonnie and Ken, it was a pleasure being with you on your wedding day, and assisting you with your special day. Whenever I see red roses, I will think of you. My congratulations and sincere best wishes to you for happiness always. xoxo Liane

shop update: new pieces in store

I can't believe it's been nearly a month since my last update - it's crazy how time flies by so quickly.

I've been hard at work working on new pieces for the new season, new photos, a new website, preparing pieces for the racing season, filling orders and working on a number of large requests... in between working full time in my day job of course! Oh how I love it! I'll update my blog with updates as I slowly get through them so stayed tuned =)

I've been fortunate enough to have a long weekend this week - Friday off work and Monday here in Canberra is a public holiday. This means I've had a little bit of time to work on some new pieces for my store. Here are some pics - more coming!

Lauren & Nick's Wedding

Lauren and Nick chose to be married at St. Teresa's church in South Lake Tahoe. The day was beautiful, no wind, with temperatures in the mid 80's. Lauren looked beautiful in her strapless gown and cathedral-length veil, as she took the arm of her father and headed down the long aisle, towards Nick. The sun shined through the many stained glass windows, as guests and family members witnessed the joining of these two lives. A harpist played music that made the procession and ceremony seem like a fairy tale.

The spiritual ceremony was followed with a buffet dinner reception at Edgewood Country Club in Stateline, Nevada. The tables were decorated with manzanita trees, wrapped with illuminated vases and filled with flower and glass votives that shinned in the evening. Handmade menu cards and individual, hand-baked pies greeted each guest as they were seated. Home made peach and apple pies were served in favor of the traditional wedding cake. Lauren, her sister and mother had worked very hard making all the special details that truly made this reception one of a kind.

Thank you, Lauren & Nick, for the opportunity to assist you with your beautiful wedding. It was a pleasure meeting you and your wonderful families, and being a small part of your wedding day. I will remember you always, and wish you a lifetime of happiness and love. xoxo Liane

Well, fall is here, and it is a beautiful time to get married or begin planning your Fall 2011 wedding. Spring and summer may the the seasons that first come to mind when you begin planning a wedding, but autumn has a lot to offer brides too. From cooler, dryer weather and the glorious backdrop of fall colors the opportunity to land a great deal on a reception venue, fall delivers many rewards for couples on the road to wedded bliss.
If you're planning your nuptials for harvest season, here is some advice for incorporating the best elements of the season in your big day.

Vibrant reds, dazzling oranges, glittering golds and bold browns- fall's palate is a glorious profusion of colors unique to the season. Autumn brides should revel in the season's colors drawing the hues of fall into all aspects of their weddings from bridesmaid gowns to table linens, floral arrangements and fall wedding favors.
Fall colors offer many advantages when it comes to planning a wedding. It's easy to mix and match more than one fall color because they tend to naturally complement each other. A pair of bronze gowns with flowers that sport autumnal reds and golds, and you'll have a sure win.

ACCESSORIZING WITH AUTUMN

Don't forget to continue your autumn theme throughout your wedding with fall themed wedding accessories. You can fine leaf-motif unity candles, napkins, and guest towels in fall colors, autumn-themed invitations and sane-the-date cards, cake serving sets with maple leaf details and a host of other items that all play to a fall theme.

Floral arrangements also offer a chance to convey an autumn theme and do something unique at the same time. Whether you opt for arrangements that feature fall flowers, alike mums or gardenias, or out-of-season flowers that sport fall colors you can accent arrangements with brightly hues leaves, branches, berries, cornstalks, hay and other natural or nature-inspired touches that are special to the season.
